Our Story Book
By Asif Walli
It’s 1944 and an ordinary English boy was sent off to India by his grandma to escape the ravages of the Second World War. He eventually arrived in Udaipur and at the home of the Mewar (King). Smells, sights, sounds, heat, animals, insects, music, people and food were all so different from back home in England. He had no idea, but his real journey was just about to begin. In a world far removed from the war back home, he goes through his own trials and tribulations as well as growing up the Indian way. There he is befriended by Duke the elephant along with a courageous street girl named Iman, two monkeys and a parrot. What follows is a series of unusual adventures around India as the unlikely group try their best to reunite their elephant friend with his family. Along the way they meet tigers, water buffalo, monkeys, and other amazing creatures but all they really need to keep them going on their journey is friendship. The Duke of Delhi stories were told to us by our Gran while we were growing up and now its available as an E-Book.
